Panera and the Potty

So I obviously have a lot of catching up to do. I will get there eventually, but I am going to start with a little post about our day today. Most of you know by now that I am a complete Panera junkie. I try to limit myself to once a week, but sometimes I even have trouble doing that. When I was pregnant with Brandon, I think I had it at least twice a week, including every day that I was in the hospital when he was born.

But anyway, back to my original story... So back to our Panera trip today... You know you get your food to go entirely too often, when your 2yr old looks up at you as you are taking a seat and she has a huge smile on her face and is practically screaming, "Thank you for letting me eat here Mommy!!!" For those of you with kids, on most days, it is much easier and less stressful to just get it to go and to deal with the kids in your own house. So I guess I was feeling brave today. (I actually was starving and needed to go to the grocery story, so I didn't want to unload the kids at home, just to eat and load them back up again for the store.)

With Brandon entertained, I was actually enjoying my lunch with some casual conversation with Brooke. She can be soooo sweet sometimes! If you don't want to hear about potty talk...stop here. As I am eating I thought I heard her say something about not having to go potty. So I decided not to ask her what she was talking about. With about ten bites of my awesome salad left....I hear the dreaded words..."Mommy, I have to go potty."

Did I mention I was starving? So I ask her if she could wait a few more minutes. Sher replied with, "Mommy, I have to go potty...PLEASE" So that means, no, she can't wait. So I am by myself, her grilled cheese is half gone, my salad looks like someone just didn't want to finish it. There was no way I could leave it on the table without it all being thrown away? I had no one to sit there and watch my food, so what was I supposed to do. Just toss the food, or have a puddle on the floor? Well...I was REALLY hungry...but this post is getting long...so to make a long story short...There we are, Brandon in the stroller, Brooke on the potty, in the handicapped bathroom, her grilled cheese in the diaper bag, and my salad in the bottom pouch of the stroller. Crisis avoided and Mommy with a full belly...(I went back out to the dining area to finish...but I still felt kinda gross)

So what did I learn today...to go to the bathroom as soon as we get to Panera next time.

The Beginning of Something New

After reading a few blogs these days, it had me wishing I had started something with such detail when I found out I was pregnant with my baby girl who is now two and a half. I have the webpage with pictures and I have the typical baby book, but nothing that captures the little details that I have seen on some friends blogs that I don't want to forget. So...I guess better late than never. I am going to give this a shot and we will see how it goes. Wish me luck!

September

Brooke Elizabeth

1. “Mommy, I would like you to put Brandon in a toy please.” I guess I wasn’t paying enough attention to her at the time!

2. At red lights she now says, “Mommy I would like to go please.” So tired of hearing this that I usually respond with, “so would I.”

3. Nothing like going to the bathroom and having Brooke walk in clapping her hands saying “YAY Mommy…You went potty!!” (I’m just glad she is potty trained!)

4. One night she couldn’t find Daddy, so she walked through the house saying, “Daddy where are you, Daddy where are you, (that wasn’t working so she then said…) Honey where are you!” Good thing I call Eric honey and not something else J

5. Having a 2 yr old teaches you how you talk to your dog…no quotes needed here!

And last for this month

6. “Daddy, you’re my favorite guy"

Brandon Jon

As of this month, Brandon has his 2 bottom front teeth. A mere 6 months before his sister had both her bottom teeth. Since his new additions, the question has not been what will Brandon eat, but more like what won’t Brandon eat. I have started a list so far of things he has recently tried to consume. (I am not surprised seeing how there are about 10 picture every month with something in his mouth)

-corner of a business card
-Panera paper bag
-cardboard coffee cup
-greeting card
-paper from a dinosaur magnet
Not surprisingly, he prefers this list of things above instead of the usual baby rattles, teethers and the one million other toys we have for him to chew on. So when you are around Brandon, please keep all paper products very far away!!

Since I wrote this on 10/1, Brandon has also tried to eat the computer, his bath tub, my face, his bouncy seat, the dog….I think you can see a pattern here by now

August

Brooke Elizabeth

As of this month, we have officially ditched the diapers for Brooke. Mommy had been putting it off because, believe it or not, it is easier in diapers…when you are out shopping. We now know where all the bathrooms are in the mall, Target, Walmart, Barnes and Noble, and just about every other store that we have visited in the past two weeks. As you can imagine there were a few accidents along the way, my favorite “accident story” was at Mimi’s house. As you can imagine Brooke was very excited to poop in the potty, so while standing up to show mommy her business, the rest of her business came out on the floor….oops!! We now know to sit for a long time to make sure we are done! Eric put it nicely when he said potty training is like having a puppy all over again.

Brandon Jon

Now when you look at Brandon, you won’t see that gummy smile anymore. He officially has one tooth (beating his sister by 3 months)! He perfectly timed its arrival around the one night mommy and daddy were supposed to go out on the town kid free! A nice little fever changed those plans awfully quickly, and his tooth followed a week later. Brandon was also Baptized this month. I didn’t hear it, but I was told that while he was up at the baptismal font, he burped at the Reverend. I guess that is better than crying?? Additionally this month, Brandon made his first visit to the ESPN zone in Times Square.. I don’t know if this is the beginning of a double standard, but he has also been partying on Bourbon Street at 1am….before the age of 1….Brooke has yet to do either of the two previous things…..

July

Brooke Elizabeth

For this month’s journal entry, I have decided to do an ode’ to the funny sayings by Brookie:

1. Since learning her middle name, she no longer appreciates being called Brookie bear. After calling her that one afternoon, she looks at me and says, “Mommy, I am not Brookie Bear, I am Brooke Elizabeth.” So much for a cute nickname!

2. After looking at Brandon in a bathing suit, sitting in the bumbo, she proclaimed, “Brandon has mummums!” He does have quite the man-boobs these days J

3. While doing laundry with mommy, she looked at Eric’s boxers and proudly called them “Daddy’s Panties”

4. After my accident with Kacee, she looks at my foot and says, “Mommy clunked Kacee’s teeth, it was an accident”

5. These days she is learning who is a boy and who is a girl, after going through about 20 people correctly, we ask her if Doc is a boy or a girl…her answer…..Girl…we don’t know if she is right or wrong!! J/K. We then move on to Amanda and Steve. She guessed “girl” for Amanda followed by “big” for Steve!

Brandon Jon

After Brandon’s 6 month check up this months…..there is no longer a need for a DNA test….says Eric. Brandon has slowed down to the 30 percentile for height and is the 50th percentile for weight. Even though he is considered “average” by growth standards, he is still huge to us, breaking the scales at 17lbs 8oz, less than one pound shy of his sister at age 1 year.

His favorite things to do this month are “yell” as his cousins call it (he is probably the loudest and noisiest baby in the family), grab his toes and perfect the art of sitting. I am hoping since he is so chubby, he will be delayed in the crawling category!!

His favorite food is pears, followed by prunes (poor guy needed them)! Just watch out…we both need bibs when he is eating because when he is finished or full, he lets you know by spitting his mouthful at you. Note to self….prunes stain!

June

Brooke Elizabeth

This month ended with the first “sick” visit for Brooke in about a year and a half. One tube left and two infected ears she is on a round of meds. She is taking this lingering cold quite well, besides a little crankiness here and there. She has become quite a pro at asking for a nose wipe….we are trying to perfect, “I’d like a nose wipe please” but is always come out “I have boogies please”. At least she is getting the please part right. Hopefully we are not in for round 2 of ear tubes. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Brandon Jon

Five months and counting. We have been attempting to sit this month however he chooses the most inopportune time to try to sit…for example: when he is strapped into his car seat. It is fun to try in the boppy or on the couch because he is still quite wobbly. Things around the house have been must easier this month because he is very interested in what his big sister is doing these days. He follows her all around the room with his eyes which is usually followed with “he is looking at me” stated by Brooke. It is nice when they entertain each other, expect for when he has a toy Brooke would like. She has also been quick to learn how to bring a toy to Brandon in order to trade for the one that he has…..it slowly begins…..
